On the photos of Alain Cornu one can’t see the crowded boulevards, nor the charmant cafés of Paris, and even the monuments attracting millions of tourists get a marginal role. And yet, these pictures give us a typical view of the French metropolis: the endless landscape of the rooftops of Paris.

On his series of pictures Sur Paris, human presence is signalled by the lighting windows that appear among the typical zink roofs, the antennas, the firewalls, the waterspouts of the medieval churches and the chimneys. „I am interested in the aesthetics of the everyday life. I am not a voyeur. I am an observer, I imagine all these people who go home in the evening. It is much more about the imagination, than what we can see.“
The basic elements of his compositions are strange angles in the soft lights before nightfall and the city’s lights. „This is the time, when we are get close to imagination and intimacy“ – he sais. His pictures are made by analogue technique and long exposition time.
